O happy day-London day 2
Day two, we woke up and got breakfast just before it stopped. It was better than our last
hostel because this time you got not only bread and coffee, but also corn flakes! After breakfast, we all got dressed and headed out. Much to our surprise, it was sunny outside! To start the day we bought a day pass for the buses and hopped on to a double decker at kings cross! The double deckers are all red and London is kind of known for them just because it is different than most other cities in the world. Right when we got on we went straight to the top and front. When in London, the bus system is the way to go, not the Underground. Also, for you Harry Potter fans out there, like i said earlier, we got on the bus at kinds cross which is where you get on the hogwarts express at platform 9 & 3/4! Our first stop of the day was Trafalger Square, whic
h is a famous square in London central to parliment, westminster abbey and buckingham palace. We got some coffee and then just stood in the square for a while drinking our coffee and taking it all in becuase it was so beautiful. There was this group of asian people standing on the side of the square who were standing in a circle singing praise music and it was cool because i knew the songs. one of the songs they sang was chris tomlin, how great is our God! Then we walked in the direction of Buckingham Palace. It was a little bit of a walk, but it was ok because you pass through this huge stone gate/monument and then down this long road lined with really pretty trees on both sides, and at the end is buckingham palace. buckingham palace is cool, but definitely not at all what i was expecting. I was thinking it would be really detailed and ornate and special, but its just a building...still cool though, dont get me wrong. Also, there are no guards outside that you can mess with and try and make smile or whatever. I was looking forward to that, but the guards are definitely behind the gate, far away against the palace wall. I dont know if that has changed or its just in the movies where you can
mess with them. We stayed there for a while and took lots of pictures of the palace, the huge statue out front and the royal parks to the side. The gates are really cool because they are black with gold on them. Next we headed over to Westminster Abbey, which is breathtaking! I loved it. Sadly, we missed the last time to get to go in and tour it, but it worked out okay. Its just dumb becuase you have to pay so much to get to go inside these churches. Instead we just decided to go look at parliment and big ben and then go back to westminster abbey (they are really close to each other) for something called evensong, which was free to go in. So we did just that. Parliment is cool, its really pretty, and same with big ben, which is huge! We went back to Westminster Abbey and Evensong turned out to be like a church service, but it turned out good becuase we got to go in for free and see the inside and then also see more what they actually do. Obviously since it is an English church it is Anglican, which is very similar to Catholic so ive been told. Then we split us girls and guys becuase the guys wanted to tour parliment and us girls wanted to go get lunch (considering it was already 4 and the guys had already eaten) and then walk down Oxford Street and do some shopping. We ended up stopping at this
place for lunch similar to maybe a lubys catered toward younger people and healthy food. It was so good. I got a tuna sandwhich, which they make their tuna with corn in it, and lettuce, and then a chocolate muffin for dessert. The sandwich was amazing, and made me wish Spain had good food like that. When we were done eating, we started the trek down oxford street. We stopped in a lot of stores but i didnt end up getting anything except for a really cheap scarf...2 pounds/4 dollars. Then we met the guys back at the hostel and rested a little before going out. We attempted to work on our projects for studio because we had a lot due on that Tuesday, actually we had our first review which is was a big deal. It didnt work so well. We sat there attempting to work for about 30 minutes and got nothing done so we just gave up and went out. The lady at our hostel told us a good place to go was Soho Street/ district so thats what we did. When we got there, we ate at this little cafe really quick and then tried to find somewhere to go. Turns out soho is the gay district so that was a little awkward. Anthony and Shanna decided to go in this club that cost 5 pounds cover charge, but nobody else wanted to go, so we split up and went to try and find a pub. It was about 11:40 and we went in one, and the guy was like, we are closing in 20 minutes so we left, to try and find one open later. Turns out, all bars and pubs in London clos
e down at midnight. How lame is that. I thought it was really stupid because in college station they dont even close until 2. We ended up getting one drink at a cool pub called Georges, and then it closed. I got Strongbow Cider which is a drink you have to try in England and it was really good. Since all the pubs were closed, we just went back to the hostel and went to sleep.
Pic 1 is of Rosie, me and shanna at the square, 2 is of one of the guards at buckingham palace, 3 is of westminster abbey, 4 is of big ben, 5 is of me and shanna in front of parliment and the last if of me and christina at the pub.
