a half week of school before a week break!

Monday for class we had another field trip. Mondays are the class with the American lady, and they are definitely my favorite classes. She is so informative and understands where we are coming from and what we need while we are here, and really attempts to help us as much as she can. Today for our field trip, we took a train outside of Barcelona, which was really nice to breath some fresh air for a couple of hours. I miss fresh air and open space. Anyway, so we went to this little town called Colonial Guell which used to be an old factory town where all the workers lived and worked there too. It is really small, and stands today similar to when it was working because it is a protected city. It is significant to us as architects becuase one, there is an unfinished church there done by Gaudi where only the crypt was done, but it is beautiful. two, a lot of his colleges built several of the buildings around town including houses, the factory and so on. When we got there, we headed straight to the church. Suzanne, our prof, explained to us all these things and then we just got free time to mill around the church and experience it on our own. It is just a crypt but it is now being used as the city church. It is a really cool design. From there, we headed to a little coffee shop in town and all took a break and had some coffee. Then we took a short loop through the town, looking at all the other buildings built by gaudi's followers. After that, we hopped back on the train and we were done with class for the day. When we got back, we immediately had to start work on our studio stuff. Tuesday was really nice becuase our studio professor had some meeting during our class time, so instead of the normal 4 hour class, we only had a one hour class! It was great. Tuesday evening Bhavika and I went out to dinner with our neighbors who are from Clemson. It was really fun to hang out with them, and once again get away from our small group for a couple of hours. We went to this little restaurant that was kind of mediterranean/mexican food, and it was actually really good. I had fajitas, but they were nothing like the fajitas we are used to texas. I also got a margarita which you can' t find anywhere in spain, and that wasnt such a good decision. It tasted like straight tequila. Nasty. After dinner we came back to Resa, and Anthony, Bhavika, Preston and I booked a flight to Rome, and from Rome to Berlin, and then back to Barcelona, so that is how we are going to spend our two weeks of traveling time at the end! I'm really excited, except it is going to be freezing in Berlin in December. Oh well! The cool thing is all the flights together was only like 140 euros! Wednesday was uneventful. We just went to class and then had to get ready to leave for the Netherlands. These pics are of the crypt. The last picture is where they hold holy water, but its really cool becuase that is a real shell from the phillippines! Its huge!
