short week of classes! thank goodness (oct. 29-1)
Monday was yet again another field trip. On this one we went to this park called Diagonal Mar and then over to the Forum complex. The park is a new park here in Barcelona and is one of the largest in the city. Seriously it is such a cool park, i loved getting to visit it. It is kind of hard to describe and being stupid i forgot to take any pictures of the park.
There are many different sections of the park supposedly symbolizing the human life and its progression so there is a childhood section, adolescence, adulthood and elderly. Throughout the park are all these curving pole-like structures weaving around, with huge potted plants all along. There is a huge lake, lots of grass, and also a large hill. On the hill is so cool, because on the back side there all about 5 or 6 metal slides built into the ground with different steepness and such. We had so much fun sliding down these by the way. There should be many more slides like that in the world! From there we continued on through the park to the childhood section where there was more fun things....a huge playground. I must admit the playground equipment here is much better than in the states. We played here for a long time because it was just so fun! There was also a piece of urban furniture that we all sat on and it was really comfortable...good design. After the park, we walked over to the Forum which is an area of town done a couple of years ago for an exposit
ion of sorts. There is a large triangular building and also a huge complex surrounding it on the beach, with a large solar panel and many urban spaces for people to gather or concerts/events to take place. We went into the triangular Forum building which now houses a museum of sorts of the new projects in the city of Barcelona. Here they have this huge, incredible model of the city with every single block and street built. It is indescribable how amazing this model is, just believe me. And, on top of that, they have a light show that explains stuff about the city using this model and laser lights. It was really cool. Also, in this building, we were told we had to go and look at the bathrooms, so we d
id. Oh my goodness, they are bright, bright yellow. We had to put on our sunglasses because it hurt our eyes. Of course we took pictures because it was crazy. After that, we walked around the rest of the area and then got on a tram over to the Torre Agbar...the blue and red tower in Barcelona. After that, we were done with our field trip so we went back to Resa, ate dinner and then headed up to studio to do work on our projects. We stayed up pretty late working on that and then went to class on Tuesday to get a critique on our new design plan. It went very badly. Our professor hated what we had done and said that it looked like we hadn't done any work at all, and that we needed to actually work or it would turn out very bad for our group. He made me so incredibly mad because we had
worked just as hard as every other group and it just feels like nothing we do is good enough for him. I am telling you, he was a jerk to us, and we feel like no matter what we do, he hates it. After the brutal beating we got, we went back to our dorm for a meeting we had, and also Anthony's parents got in that day so we met them. They took us to dinner which was really nice of them. We ended up going back to the place we had eaten the weekend before in Barceloneta with the Paella and we got the same thing to eat. It was nice to have parents in town and have people pay for your dinner! After dinner, we went back to the dorm and wrote a paper outline due on Wednesday. Wednesday morning half the group left for Prague because Thursday was a holiday in Spain so no classes. The other half of us stayed here and had class. Thursday since our group had such a bad review for our project, we stayed and worked on our project all day long. Thursday evening we spent the night doing laundry and packing for our Prague trip, which of course we left bright and early at 5. The first picture is of the model of the city i was talking about. The second is a zoom in of the part of the city we live in. I highlighted where we live, our school and plaza reial. the last two pics are in the yellow bathroom!
