guards, picnics, and picadilly circus- London day 3
Our last day in London, we started off after breakfast, by going to see the changing of the guards. During the fall, they do the changing of the guards at Buckingham palace every other day at 11:30. We got there, right when it started which was a bad move because there were a million people there when we arrived. Everyone was plastered to the gates so i couldn
't really see much of what was going on. A few times, I wiggled my way close enough to see and there were a lot of the guards with the hats, which was cool to see, but i couldnt get many good pictures from where i was standing. But no worries, one of the other girls with us got some good pics and i put them on my computer! And she has a cannon so she took some color accent pics of the red suits and they turned out really good. I got kinda bored about half way through since i couldnt see much so i got some earl gray tea and sat in the park waiting to meet everybody else in our meeting spot. turns out anthony and christina had the same idea so we sat togeth
er and waited for the other half of the group. When we were all back together, we headed off to Harrods just to check it out. It is a famous department stored in London because of how huge it is. We split up and spent an hour wandering around and then met back up outside. The department store is one of those places that most people just go in to look because it is only top designers stuff in there, and obviously all very expensive. Another cool thing about it is that the food court is really high class. It is like all these counters where you can get different sandwiches or fish, steak, cheese, anything you want and then there is a section of fruits and veggies, and then a bakery and candy section. Its really cool. Most of us wanted to get food there and then take it and have a picnic in Hyde park with our Harrods food, so
thats what we did. Two of the girls split off to do their own thing, which i'm glad because they were in pissy moods anyway. The rest of us picked out all different things to eat. I got this chicken toasty which was interesting, it is wrapped in a hardish pastry thing. And then i got two different flavored scones, and a sausage ball thing. We walked to the park and just found a part of the grass to sit and eat on. It was exactly what i needed. On these sort of weekend trips, the last day you are so tired you just want to take in the city without walking across the whole thing, and by then you have seen all the super touristy things anyway. We took our time eating, and when we were done, we wal
ked through the park heading to the Serpentine Gallery. Hyde Park is huge so it was quite a hike, but still very enjoyable. There is a small lake/huge pond in the middle of the park so we just walked next to the water. On the way to the gallery, we passed
the Princess Diana memorial monument so of course we stopped. It was really cool, but there wasnt a lot of info on the design. What is did say was that it represented her life. It was a complete circle, with water running all the way through it starting from one point a the top and flowing in two directions to the bottom with different obstacles, speeds and textures and meeting at the bottom in a calm pool. Also, there are small walking bridges so that you can walk across it and you can touch the water or whatever because she was the people's princess. Then we went over to the serpentine gallery which is just a gallery that is dismantled every year, and different people design them. After that we went back to oxford street to go to one shop and then to a pub so two people c took some pictures. One of them is hilarious because we pretended to be peeing on the public toilet. And of course we took the telephone booth pic, and the booth smelled l
ike mens cologne. Then we took a bus back to Trafalger square and took some pictures on the huge lions which was quite an adventure. It was a lot of fun because we were all hyper and giggly. First we couldnt get on the lion and we had to help each other, then the last girl was scared (rosie), and then when we got down we took pics trying to spell out uk! but the k (rosie) is a little messed up. Then we took the bus back to the hostel and happened to be the only ones of the second deck so we took crazy pics. It was a fun last night. We went to bed rather early, around 11 or 12 becuase we had to get up at 3 to catch our bus back to the airport. We had to take a night bus, to our bus station and nobody had looked at the time, and we freaked out. We didnt thing we were going to make it on time, therefore missing our flightould eat dinner and we all got cider. Those of us who had the picnic were still full from lunch so we didnt eat. Then we wa
lked to Picadilly Circus which is like the times square of London. We just walked around there, and, but we found another bus to take, right at the last minute. It was really stressful. Then when we got off the bus, one of the girls left her purse with her wallet and passport in it, and the bus was gone. She freaked out and started crying, understandably, and we were supposed to get our bus in 10 minutes. It all worked out in the end because she flagged down a bus driver who called the bus and it came back, but it was really scary for a while. In the airport, while we were sitting there waiting to check in, there was a big guy behind us who was playing the funniest, most random music you can imagine. One of the songs was I'm a Barbie Girl, so i was sitting there in the airport dancin
g to his music. It was fun.
